A building energy rating is the No.1 thing you should do before you decide to build. Since the 1st of January 2007, it is required by law that all new homes for which planning permission has been applied for must have an energy rating. When building a new house you should be aiming for a B2 rating or better. By proper planning and following some simple guidelines these high ratings can be achieved at very little extra cost. A home built with a good energy rating in mind will be easier to heat and have lower energy costs.
